The lymphatic system is a system consist of several ‘thin tubes and lymph nodes’ that run throughout the entire human body. These tubes’ are known as ‘lymph vessels' or 'lymphatic vessels’. The light touch utilized in Manual lymphatic Drainage is designed to move the skin in specific directions in order to stretch and stimulate the opening of the initial lymphatics just below the surface of the skin.
By optimizing the lymphatic system, we minimize sluggish build up and accumulated toxins. Along with the client’s particular health needs, the goals of each treatment are to boost immunity and to reduce inflammation.
Swelling, scarring and bruising are common after-effects of any surgical procedures. After-care is therefore paramount to put you in a better position in the healing process.
With fatty tissues being removed, the body undergoes ‘shock’ and a care plan should be in place for the body to adjust to the new environment – your new body.
injections, fat removals and tissue disruptions would have the body generating excess fluids as a response. With the accumulation of excess fluids, some patients do suffer from edema, fibrosis pockets and hardened scar tissues.
Lymphedema is not something that can be cured. Treatment focuses on reducing the and preventing complications. MLD is a way of reducing swelling caused by fluid build up after cancer or surgical treatments.
The aim of MLD is to move fluid from the swollen area into a place where the lymphatic system is working normally. Specialized skin movement is used to clear and drain areas.
After MLD, specialized bandaging technique called multi-layered lymphedema bandaging is used for tissue softening, and to check how much swelling is going down. If bandaging is not possible or necessary, a compression garment will be advised.
Managing lymphedema is very much about working between therapist and the individual.
